Brittney Cooper’s book, Eloquent Rage, is a timely resource not only for my Black Sisters on the frontlines (where we always are) of the ongoing movement, but also for our White Allies who want to understand the constant outrage that we grapple with, not just out in the public eye, but our internal struggles with anger, rage, and frustration. One of the things that she highlights so eloquently in this book is laid out in this quote; “ Caring for Black women’s actual lives means sitting with the acuteness of our fragility. We break, too.” This book humanizes Black Women; it shows our hearts and who we are at our core. Brittney tackled all the complexities that exist within the mind, body, and soul of Black Women. For those with young Black Daughters please get this book for her. Allow her the opportunity to learn how to use her rage in a beneficial way. Rage has stifled the careers of many Black Women and I want these young Black Women today to have a head start at claiming their seat at the table. Black Women, continue to use your rage/sass as a tool that elevates you to the next level of existence. I am highlighting Eloquent Rage as my book of the week because she shows our true Black Girl Magic! She shows that we are more than supportive actresses in this thing called life. Throughout the current movement sweeping across the globe, Black women have showed up (like we always do) and showed out. We are the star of the show!
As Brittney says in her book, “My job as a Black Feminist is to love Black women and girls. Period.”
I love You All!
